Topic 1: BE PREPARED

Whatever you do, do NOT forget to pack an emergency kit!!!

Of course, we all live in hope that our big day will run like a dream with no great disasters, no stressful emergencies and no sobbing members of the bridal party. Let's hope that  you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to endure any of these experiences on your day. However, it is always best to prepare and equip yourself though, as best you can so that you are adequately armed with the right set of  fix-me-up items to get you through that dreaded hiccup relatively unscathed if it does dare to reveal itself.

These are your essential items that you MUST have with you. Pack a small bag or beauty case with the following items and entrust them to a friend or relative so that you can have access to them if and when they are needed. Do Not give them to your bridesmaids, parents, anyone under the age of 25 or anyone who is known to be unreliable or a little too fond of the liquor!!! You need to be able to find this emergency kit in the event of an emergency. Your bridesmaids probably won't want the hassle of carting it around or finding an appropriate home for it, your parents will be too busy socialising with the guests, the youngsters won't want the responsibility and well, I don't really need to go on any further......

So take a read of the essential list, then follow these 4 P's.

PRINT                      - copy and print out this list leaving yourself enough room to add and edit (but not delete!)

PERSONALISE      - add any extra items that you believe you may need. ie. extra medications, lip balm etc

PREPARE               - get your items together, choose an appropriate bag or case to contain them and pack them up

PROTECT              - do NOT delve into your emergency pack to use any of your items before your wedding day. Keep your pack well                                      stocked and protected until the big day so you're not missing anything important when it comes to the crunch.

Here's the list:

1. Medical fixers. Headache tablets and pain relief tablets - the standard variety, or if you're prone to suffering migraines bring the stronger stuff. Band aids for cuts or blisters, tweezers and eyedrops if you're a hayfever sufferer.

2. Make-up fixers. Tissues, hand-mirror, cotton buds, blotting paper (if you have an oily complexion), concealer (if you have any defiant blemishes),  eye makeup remover, pressed powder, eyelash glue (if you're wearing falsies) and touch up lipstick and/or gloss.

3. Gown fixers. Baby wipes (good for removing stains from gowns), cotton wool, small flannel or cloth (for placing under the stained layer of fabric when removing the stain - the stain will become transferred to the cloth underneath when being cleaned rather than just dispersing through the layers of the gown.) Safety pins(good, strong, reliable ones of at least 2 different sizes), double sided fashion tape, sewing needles - at least 2, a few dressmaker's pins, a small pair of snips or scissors like embroidery scissors and thread to match the colour of your gown, the bridesmaids and the boys.

4. Hair fixers. Extra hair pins, small container of hair spray, small comb.

5. Nourishment fixers. Water and something small to snack on. You can easily become dehydrated between your ceremony and the time of your reception so make sure you have water on hand and you may need something sugary to give you an energy boost and keep those hunger pangs away.

6. Hygiene fixers.  Breath freshners and anti-persperant or deodorant (for yourself AND your groom.)
